We love spending time with close friends and extended family around the holidays, and North Myrtle Beach has plenty of fun, seasonal events to keep locals and visitors alike busy between Thanksgiving and New Year. Between a regatta, parade, and a Christmas Show Spectacular, the holiday events are uniquely NMB.
Have You Seen the Light
Feel the spirit of the season the moment you drive into the city, with Christmas lights of every color twinkling bright. But there’s more! The Great Christmas Light Show will completely blow you away. At the North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex, you can witness more than two million lights lining a two-mile drive with more than 500 fun, creative displays. Some are up to 55 feet tall! It’s a slow, leisurely drive along the path, so everyone can take pictures.
And the end of the drive is just the start of the fun. Visitors can park, grab a hot chocolate, and wander into Santa’s Village. You can even ride the Santa Express Train and get some face time with the Jolly Old Elf himself.
The Great Christmas Light Show runs between Thanksgiving and Christmas (check the website for exact times and dates), and the weather is just right. Not too cold, but just brisk enough to feel like the holidays. Early sunsets this time of year also mean you can start early and grab dinner after.
A Grand Old Time
The true meaning of Christmas comes alive at The Alabama Theatre and The South’s Grandest Christmas Show. Contemporary holiday faves and traditional songs you've sung since you were a kid set the mood. The show is the highlight of the Grand Strand and is perfect for all generations. You’ll be singing in the car all the way back to your home away from home. In addition to the music, there are comedy and variety acts, which keep the show fresh from year to year.
On “Sail” Now
The Christmas Regatta is a local favorite. The Saturday after Thanksgiving, everyone packs the shores of the Intracoastal between Little River Inlet and Dock Holidays Marina.
Decked-out yachts sail by as we marvel at the creative displays. This is a free event, but Yachts for Tots encourages everyone to donate a toy. You can pick up a couple of toys to donate during a holiday shopping excursion to Barefoot Landing.
Marching bands, bright lights, and Santa march down Main Street for the NMB Christmas Parade. It runs from the top of Main Street down to Ocean Boulevard. Get there early to get a good spot along the parade route.
Your holiday getaway to NMB will create memories that your whole family will relive throughout the year. Between shows, lights, and even a walk along the beach (in December!) NMB can be your holiday home away from home.
