At Destination North Myrtle Beach, we believe that the best organizations never stop learning. Investing in professional development ensures our team continues to bring innovative ideas, stronger leadership, and national best practices back to the businesses and communities we serve.
In July, Leslie Wallace, our Advocacy & Business Development Director, attended the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Institute for Organization Management (IOM) Southeast Institute at the University of Georgia in Athens. The Institute is part of a rigorous four-year professional development program designed to prepare chamber and association executives to lead high-performing organizations through advanced education in advocacy, governance, membership, communications, finance, strategic planning, and organizational management.
Each year of the program builds on the last, equipping participants with new skills and practical strategies that strengthen every aspect of a chamber's operations. Upon successful completion of the four-year curriculum, participants earn the prestigious IOM designation, one of the highest professional credentials in the chamber industry.
For Destination North Myrtle Beach, this investment in leadership translates directly into greater value for our partners. The knowledge gained through the Institute helps strengthen our advocacy efforts, enhance membership engagement, improve organizational planning, and develop innovative programs that respond to the evolving needs of our business community. As our team continues to grow professionally, so does our ability to advocate for policies that support economic growth, create meaningful networking and educational opportunities, and deliver programs that make a lasting impact.
The week also provided an opportunity to collaborate with chamber and association professionals from across South Carolina and throughout the United States. Sharing ideas, discussing challenges, and learning from organizations of all sizes creates a valuable network of peers who continue exchanging best practices long after the classroom experience ends.
Professional development is more than an investment in an individual—it's an investment in the future of our organization. By pursuing the Institute for Organization Management certification, Leslie is bringing nationally recognized leadership practices and innovative ideas back to North Myrtle Beach, helping ensure Destination North Myrtle Beach remains a forward-thinking organization that delivers exceptional value to its partners, champions a strong business climate, and continues building a vibrant future for our community.
As Leslie continues working toward the IOM designation over the next three years, Destination North Myrtle Beach looks forward to implementing new ideas and best practices that will strengthen our organization and enhance the services, advocacy, and opportunities we provide to our partners.
