Windy Hill

Windy Hill

Windy Hill’s laid back character is one of the many attractive features that developers have sought to preserve.

Located at the southernmost tip of North Myrtle Beach, Windy Hill provides ideal access to the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean, courtesy of its world-class marinas. One of its most popular attractions includes Barefoot Landing on the Waterway, a boardwalk with shops and restaurants that appear to float on water. Visitors can access by boat on the Intracoastal Waterway. Barefoot Landing is also home to The House of Blues and The Alabama Theatre, which host popular bands and shows all year long.

Windy Hill offers a few more adventurous experiences, too. Plan a trip to Alligator Adventure, one of the world’s largest reptile parks, or take a sightseeing cruise along the coast. If recreation is what piques your interest, try out your skills on the fairways of one of our signature golf courses, designed by names like Pete Dye, Greg Norman, George Fazio and Davis Love.

Countless activities and a laid back way of life make Windy Hill the perfect vacation spot to stay on the move and stay put all at the same time.

History

Windy Hill became a part of North Myrtle Beach in 1968. Legend has it that George Washington helped name the city Windy Hill Beach by standing on a hill and saying, “This is a windy hill.”

The area where Barefoot Landing stands today was once called “White Point Swash,” and was home to a restaurant called White Point Café. There is a rumor that Blackbeard, the famous ruthless pirate, used to use White Point Swash as a landing spot during his travels to Charleston, South Carolina.

Windy Hill Beach incorporated in 1964 with John T. Harrell as mayor, and joined the towns of Crescent Beach, Ocean Drive, and Cherry Grove to form North Myrtle Beach in 1968.
