The most famous attraction of North Myrtle Beach is in our name: the beach! But when you’re ready for a break from the sun and sand, there are plenty of hidden gems and local secrets for you to discover. Fortunately for you, we’re not very good at keeping a secret.

You don't have to look far for things to do in North Myrtle Beach. Beyond the beaches and golf courses are secluded islands and fun attractions. Some you’ll see from a distance, while others are tucked away and require a bit of curiosity to uncover.

Explore the Great Outdoors

Go beyond the surface and discover an untouched barrier island on your NMB trip. Waites Island is a must-see spot and one of our best-kept secrets. You can only get there by kayak, paddleboard, or horseback. It’s well worth the effort. The island features over 1,000 acres of breathtaking preserve. While there, keep an eye on the sky or the trees, and you may spot a majestic bald eagle.

Another local treasure is Heritage Shores Nature Preserve in Cherry Grove, which features seven acres of walking trails. You can explore the marshes and watch all the action from the elevated boardwalks.

Experience Wild Attractions

Many of our popular attractions have hidden gems inside, like Alligator Adventure. Here, alligators are just the start of the adventure! Located right next to Barefoot Landing, some of the top predators on Earth are on the prowl, from alligators and crocodiles to flamingos and bobcats. While there, you don’t want to miss the attraction’s live shows. Catch the seasonal alligator feedings between April and October, and see these reptiles leap for their dinner. The feeding show turns into an alligator handling and lecture in the winter, where you can still see the gators up close. If you’re a snake lover, there’s also a snake-handling class. These shows are a must-see.

You may not know that North Myrtle Beach is home to Shark Wake Park, but you won’t find any sharks here. Instead, a cable park with wakeboarding, water skiing, and more, and a splashy obstacle course for the entire family. Obstacle Island is tough, and you’ll probably end up in the water, but that’s half the fun. The other half is getting back up and trying again.

Wine and Dine like a Local

North Myrtle Beach attractions aren’t limited to things to do but places to eat.

Grab lunch or dinner at Rockefellers Raw Bar, which remains a hidden gem in NMB thanks to its shack-like appearance! Inside, you’ll find a cool tropical décor and a menu featuring countless seafood options, including oyster platters, and a selection of libations, including your choice of martini. If it's BBQ you're craving, make your way to Brisket, where the meats are smoked in-house fresh daily. The Frito Pie and Fried Green Tomatoes are sure to leave you feeling satisfied!

Lift your spirits at Duplin Winery, a family-owned spot that produces nearly a half-million cases of wine a year, specializing in sweet wines. Or at Twelve 33 Distillery, which crafts its spirits locally, including their spicy 3 Peppers Vodka. If you’re in the mood for a cold brew, check out Crooked Hammock Brewery, which has a playground out in the back perfect for adults, kids, and pets.

Expect the unexpected while vacationing in NMB, where fun is waiting for you beyond the shore.
